For a long time I have been drooling over the billions of recipes documented and beautifully photographed by the lovely gal at Smitten Kitchen. I am totally in love with this blog… even though I don’t bake or cook elaborate meals that often, when I do need a recipe or idea I can usually find the best version of it on her blog. I’ve made her delicious Almond Biscotti‘s before and as a first time bicotti baker, they came out perfectly thanks to her detailed instructions and photos. I’ve also learned valuable lessons about making the perfect blueberry pancake from her Pancakes 101 post. The best part is she dices in some sharp humor, back story and personality to every recipe she posts. All in all, she really gets it, and for that I adore her blog.
So when I was recently drooling over her latest posts I found her recipe for Chocolate Whiskey and Beer Cupcakes and stopped dead in my tracks. Being pregnant, anything alcohol related is just a cruel tease to someone accustomed to her nightly glass of wine. But, I had to share a snippet from this recipe and show you the photo because 1) they look adorable and 2) uh, there’s whiskey and beer in them. Need I say more?
From her recipe post:
“Folklore says that if you order an Irish Car Bomb in an Irish bar, you’ll either be greeted with a smile and a drink or a black eye, so proceed at your own risk. The way the drink is made (I figure the black eye is self-explanatory) is that a shot glass with a mix of Baileys Irish Cream and Jameson’s Irish whiskey is dropped into a three-quarters full pint of Guinness and the insane person who brought this upon themselves must chug this whole foaming mess down quickly. Before it curdles. Hey, don’t look at me — I don’t think I have ever been wasted enough to invent something so utterly brilliant.”
If you love to cook or bake, like to be inspired or just simply love the art of a well-done blog, take a visit to Smitten Kitchen. You won’t be disappointed!
