Chelsea Kaplan came to us in search of a new look. She is launching a mommy empire and wanted The Moxie Girls to lend a hand. After ironing out all the project details, we chose to work with Expression Engine to allow her site to grow in the future, with potential for forums and member profiles. We did actually prepare the member profiles, as well as various other member features, that are lying in wait for the next phase of site expansion.
Starting with stock imagery by ChihHang Chung, Chelsea requested the stock illustrations be modified until they fit her needs and requested that I use them in my design. I put the ladies of the momtourage in a “moms in the park” setting with an abstract D.C. skyline in the background. Chelsea wanted specific items for her navigation icons (my favorite is the wee newspaper!) and we added some slightly different rollover states to create a mild ‘animated’ effect.
We also created an HTML newsletter template and a custom press-publishing area using custom fields to allow Chelsea to easily manage her various press clips, audio and video.
While migrating her entries from Blogger to Expression Engine, I had the opportunity to read the majority of her entries and The Momtourage is well-written, funny, a bit snarky and an all-around good time. I hope you’ll take a moment to check out “Chelsea Kaplan’s musings about life after birth”.
