When Barry Ritholtz contacted us about doing a little rearranging on his blog, we jumped at the chance. Not only has he been a stellar client in the past, but Barry was being featured on CNBC. We couldn’t let him go out there without sprucing him up a little!
Barry and his readers really enjoyed his original layout, so we decided to stay with that concept, choosing instead to widen the site for a higher monitor resolution of 1024x768 minimum. We also added a third column on the left to accommodate his many, many links.
One of the major changes we made was to provide a more functional navigation to the top banner area. A larger logo title gave the design a bit more weight, while ditching the original image maps on the navigation and adding some fancy CSS rollovers helped clarify that the graphics are functional.
A few other details here and there in the graphics, along with a wider content area to allow for posting of graphics and charts, put a shine on Barry’s new design and makes use of the space more efficiently.
If you’re looking for the latest and greatest on markets, economy, real estate and digital media, check out the Big Picture, as mentioned in Barrons, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC and Business Week.
I gave Joelle a very challenging assignment: “come up with a design that simultaneously was more serious than my ‘fun’ blog, but had some life and fun to it. Gravitas, but with Sparkle. She did a marvelous job, and managed to create a distinct, professional look — all the while ensuring it would not be boring. I heartily recommend their services, and cannot say enough about how thrilled I am with their work.
5 stars!
