Working with Sarah and Candy (or The Bitches, as they call themselves), was the bee’s knees! Their romance novel review website is a popular blog with a tongue-in-cheek style of writing and they wanted to reflect that in their design, as well. Utilizing their branded image of “the ladies” in a square, we created a new design, utilizing bold (did we mention bold?) color, patterns and worked with the client to choose a vintage font for a bit of pulp feel.
They didn’t want the site layout to be drastically different than their existing design, but it was important to Sarah and Candy that their advertisers have feature placement, so we decided to incorporate a 2-column sidebar in order to keep all of their juicy content as close to the top as possible. We also made their simple FAQ page into a dynamic blog for them to easily update as new questions roll in.
If you’re into bodice-rippers (and even if you’re not) check out Smart Bitches, Trashy Books!
If I had to pick
a set of words to describe
our new design? Oy.
They would barely fit
in this abbreviated
yet deft format.
Words like: “HOLY CRAP.”
And “HOLY TOASTING FLAPJACKS.”
And my own favorite?
Dumbfounded silence.
It’s so awesomely gorgeous,
It makes us shut up.
Wait, you need serious testimonial? We Smart Bitches are not known for keeping our traps shut, but Joelle’s design skillz, her database beating-down skillz, and her professional yet friendly manner made redesigning our site a truly damntastically awesome experience. We count ourselves very fortunate to be a Moxie [Design Studios] client, and recommend them to anyone who asks, ‘Hey, what happened to your site? It looks GREAT!’
