We were super excited earlier this month when our client, Patricia of MotherinLawHell.com, told us that she was going to be on Dr. Phil’s show. Woo! That’s amazing to start. But when we found out her website was going to be displayed on Dr. Phil’s “big screen” we were even more excited. National television? Syndicated even? Yes, please.
Last Friday the episode aired and I made sure to record it for posterity. Full disclosure: I don’t watch Dr. Phil often (ok, ever), but I was more than happy to watch it that day! And according to Patricia, the Dr. Phil staff “LOVE the design!” and think “it’s so FUN!”. Yay! We’re thrilled to hear that since we pride ourselves on bold and happy designs. We do fun. Come and knock on our door, Dr. Phil’s staff. Anytime! ![]()
(If I find a video clip or can figure out how to get it out of my cable box and into an uploadable file, I’ll post it here.)
Patricia appeared on the show via Skype and looked fabulous. She and her sister-in-law, Robin, were charming and did a great job of promoting their site. I was so happy for her!
Mother in Law Hell is actually undergoing a rebrand right now—new name, new look, new exclusive daughter-in-law community!—and we’ll be migrating the site from Wordpress to Expression Engine, which is the perfect platform to help her existing community grow. We love working with Patricia and I’m proud to share in not only her TV experience, but the growth of her brand. Congratulations to Patricia and stay tuned for more news about the new Daughter-in-Law Society!
I received an email last night from Jessica (or Dr. V, as some of you may know her) from the fabulous vet blog, Pawcurious, with the subject “Congratulations!” and was thrilled to discover her blog has been nominated for Best Designed Weblog in the 2010 Bloggies! Hooray! I’m very flattered that folks like her site design so much—I had a blast working with Jessica and Brian. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the custom illustrations by the talented Dan Sipple. Kudos, Dan!
Pawcurious was also nominated for Best New Weblog and it’s well deserved. Not only is the design adorable (*cough cough*) but her posts are fun and engaging. I love all things “animal”, especially dogs and cats, so it’s fun to hear about her vet life.
We hope you’ll pop in and check out Dr. V at Pawcurious or follow her on Twitter, if you like. And, if you’re so inclined, pop into the 2010 Bloggies and cast your vote!
Congratulations, Jessica!
Look! Our very own Joelle was interviewed for a great article in Entrepreneur Magazine this month called “8 Tips for Working With Web Designers: Get exactly what you want for your business’s website — on time and on budget”. The article, written by Johnathon Williams offers some great tips for anyone looking for the right designer and gives you a better idea of what to expect when starting out. Joelle lends her experience and savvy to the list of tips, including some insight on how a new project starts. Check it out at Entrepreneur.com!
It’s not a secret that Joelle’s creative talents flow abundantly from the portfolio, but apparently it’s being noticed in more places than one. The writers at Six Revisions did a piece recently called 30 Creative Illustrative Website Headers in which they highlighted the use of illustration in a website design for their Design Showcase/Inspiration Topic this week.. They showcased 30 amazing sites using illustration as a focal point and Joelle’s work popped up THREE times in the list. Her web stylings from Fashion Junkie, Brandi Bakes and Cheestique - three gorgeous websites done by our very own, the lovely and talented Joelle were featured on their list.

It’s nice to see her talents getting recognized! Check out the whole article on Six Revisions. Woohoo!
For those who don’t know, my best friend and co-Moxie Girl, Kathy, is the brains and beauty behind the very popular child safety site for parents, SafeMama. She also is the founder of it’s sister site, Lovely SafeMama, which provides eco-friendly beauty and personal care items for women, moms specifically. This week, Kathy was featured on TodaysMama.com’ South Florida Mama “Dream Big” section. Yay, Kathy! ![]()
How did you accomplish [your big dream]?
A little bit of luck, some unforeseen circumstances and hard work. I was working at a big fancy consulting firm and was laid off right before 9/11. I knew it was my chance to pursue what I really loved. I started my own business designing websites that year and have been a self-employed entrepreneur ever since. I don’t regret that decision for a second. Now I am the co-owner of a popular design company Moxie Design Studios, a published author (I co-wrote The IT Girls Guide to Blogging with Moxie with my business partner Joelle Reeder) and the Editor of SafeMama.com and LovelySafeMama.com.
