Care for a beverage? Cherry Infusion Fruit Fizz
It’s that time of year again—time for the 10th Annual Blogger Boobie-Thon. We’ve been supporters and participants for the past 9 years and we hope you’ll take a moment to get involved in this worth cause.
If you’re not familiar with Boobie-Thon, in essence, bloggers and website personalities take photos of their breastages—both male and female, but mostly the ladies—and submit them to the Boobie-Thon for posting. Other people donate cashola to witness the boobies in all their glory. There’s even an *uncovered* gallery (read: nudies) for donations over $50, but here’s the catch: there are no faces. So it’s perfectly fine to submit your own! It’s all very anonymous.
All the proceeds from this annual 7-day event go to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, as well as a special “Bloggers Helping Bloggers” charity, which changes every year. This year, the recipient of this portion is our very dear friend, Wendy, who whooped breast cancer’s ass just this year. With all the financial strain having cancer puts on one’s life, Wendy is an amazing, strong survivor—but the woman still needs to eat and pay the electric bill. You can read about Wendy’s story here and and on her site, a little c.
Another perk: we’re doing a giveaway! We’re saddling up with Green Couch Designs and Emtwo Web Studios to create a custom blog design for you! Your minimum donation of $25 enters you to win. Check it out! Don’t need a new blog design? That’s ok, tell a friend and donate anyway! ;)
Won’t you take a moment to support breast cancer research and our friend, Wendy, by submitting your photo(s) and/or donating a few bucks to Boobie-Thon?
Christmas is only a couple weeks away, so we thought we’d share some of our favorite things to consider for your own gift giving! Some are rated G, some are PG, but all are fun!
BluntCard
We love sarcasm and vintage imagery, so what better than a gift card to Bluntcard’s Zazzle shop? Whether it’s mousepads, mugs or magnets, Bluntcard has something hilarious to suit a sassy adult that you know.
LUSH Cosmetics Goodies
I have a serious problem—I cannot stop buying bath goodies from Lush. Their products use unusual combos of fragrance, oils, flowers and other goodies in a kind of natural way that is both hippie and chic. My favorite thing they make is the Karma Bubble Bar. Oh, how I love thee, Karma Bubble Bar! It’s about $8 for one bar, but you can break it among 4 baths. Break a piece off, run under the water and watch as bubbles go nuts in your tub. It smells warm and spicy—just like me! It’s seriously one of the best things I’ve ever smelled. I also like their Butterball bath bomb, which fizzes and releases cocoabutter into the bath so you could out like an oil slick on a beach… in that good way. If you don’t have a Lush near you (and many don’t), you can order online or through Amazon. Go forth and smell yummy.
Oval Casserole with Lid from Crate and Barrel
I received this as a birthday gift this year and *love it*. I never thought I could love an inanimate piece of cookery, but it’s the best. If you have a cook in your life, you might consider getting them this beautiful crock. It’s all white with a clean design that is so pretty, I’ve considered leaving it on my countertop just to admire it. It’s deep enough to hold all your favorites, like lasagna or green been casserole, but personally, I think it’s ideal for homemade mac n’ cheese. The lid makes it really handy when you don’t feel like schlepping out the plastic storage. Plop on the lid, stick in the fridge and enjoy your leftovers the next day. Love, now I want more beautiful cookware like that!
BevMo!
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention BevMo. We realize not everyone cocktails, but if you have a wine lover in your life, we highly recommend a BevMo gift card. We sort of think gift cards can be impersonal, but if you select a nice bottle of their favorite wine (or yours if you want to turn them on to it) and attach a gift card to BevMo and maybe tie on a little wine opener or something, it makes a gift card seem much less “Here, have some cash.” It puts some thought behind it. BevMo often has great 5-cent wine sales so the wine zealot you know could have a veritable spree in there on your dime. (Best part? You might get to drink some of that wine with them!) Our favorite? Just about anything by Rex Goliath—especially their Pinot Noir. It’s cheap, cheerful and downright delicious.
iTunes App Store
Let’s face it, we’re app crazy. If you’ve got an iPad or iPhones (like we do—no iPad yet, though!), then you know the fever of which we speak. And likely, the iPhone lover in your life would be more than happy to receive credits toward some new apps! iTunes giftcards make great stocking stuffers. May we recommend our client’s new app? For all of you with kids (moms, dads, grandparents, babysitters, nannies, what have you), The Story Home has just launched a new app for iPhone and iPad that allows you to download and listen to their stories on the go. It gives you access to 75 of their most beloved stories, endorsed by the American Library Association and read by storyteller, Alan Scofield. If you need to keep your little one occupied, hope to get them to relax or just want to spend time together sharing the joys of storytelling, consider downloading this app by The Story Home, available in the iTunes store.
We’ve also got some freebies for you! Here are some of the holiday wallpaper we did a couple years ago and also some Twitter backgrounds, too! In the new year, we’re going to have a bunch of new freebies available to coincide with the launch of our new site, so stay tuned for that. So excited!
Kathy and I both wish a very, very happy holiday to you and yours. Don’t nog n’ drive!
Fine Print: Illustrations in our freebie wallpapers are done by our fabulous illustrator, the incomparable Derek Yaniger. They were commissioned and created for us and/or by us and may not be reused or redistributed for profit or personal gain. Like his stuff? Get his book! When I lived in Texas in the very early 2000’s, I worked for a direct marketing company in their digital media division, primarily doing web-based advertising, viral ad campaigns, landing pages… that sort of thing. We worked with companies like SBC, Yahoo! and Sony and it was where I really cut my teeth and learned the most about all this new-fangled web business. Despite the occasional long hours and typical corporate environment, I really loved that job.
What I loved most about the job, though, were the people! My dear friend, G.W…. excuse me, George, was a fabulous copywriter at said company and I thoroughly enjoyed working on the other side of the fabric cubicle wall from him. He made it more fun to go to work every day. After I left Texas in 2003, George relocated to Oregon, and recently has expanded his freelance copywriting business, launching a new group venture, Winborn and Company.
Winborn and Company provides branding and copywriting services to Portland and beyond. I can say from experience that George writes great copy—lively and smart with great focus on the target audience. And while copywriting remains the core of his business, he’s branched out with new services, as well. George gave a great explanation in an email announcement this morning:
After five years of running a one-man copywriting shop, I’ve rebranded and added a Brand Discovery Process to my practice. Now I’m helping business leaders get to the essence of what they do, why they do it, and how they can do it better. I’ve dubbed it “Business Therapy,” because businesses emerge from it with a new lease on life. This includes a renewed look, feel and voice for their brand, as well as copy for their website and marketing efforts. It helps leaders articulate their long- and short-term goals and reveals the business’s purpose to the greater community.
Check out their website—they offer a really helpful Twitter guide on the homepage for those super-new to Twitter and want to know how to tweet like a cool kid. I’ll definitely be recommending that!
I heartily recommend Winborn and Company for copywriting and brand development. George is whip-smart, talented and has smashing fashion sense. How can you go wrong?
Congratulations to George Winborn and his team. The Moxie Girls wish you every success!
, actually. It’s been a long, long time coming, but Put Down the Donut is back online! Hooray! Parade! Confetti! Etc!
For those not familiar with Put Down the Donut, it’s a blog I started back in 2003, along with Kathy, to look at weight loss in an honest, candid, and humorous, no-sugar-coating kind of way. We shared recipes, talked a lot of Weight Watchers, reviewed fitness products and overall, had a really great time! We garnered a growing following, were nominated for a Bloggie (2004, Best Group Weblog) and were even mentioned in national publication, Lifetime Magazine for Women (like the channel).
Well, after many, many requests and finally carving out the time to make it happen, The Donut, as it’s affectionately called, is BACK! This time, we’ve got a new spin on things, but will have the same great content. I’m still working on pulling the archives in — it’s a mighty task, but for now, we’re rolling things out with fresh posts written my yours truly, my partner-in-crime Kathy and some fabulous new contributors to be announced soon.
Hope to see you around!
Ok, so it's not really a magazine. It's barely even a newsletter. "Low-volume" is an understatement. We save the mailing list for the really exclusive stuff or the really BIG stuff. So, you can feel confident signing up without fear of us flooding your inbox.
But if mailing lists don't blow your dress up, you can catch us on Twitter, Facebook or subscribe to our RSS feed.
We may be bijou, but we're the cat's pajamas, so we're only able to accept a limited number of projects per season. We encourage you to submit your inquiry early.
Joelle is available for new projects in August 2012 and beyond.
Kathy is available for new projects in September 2012 and beyond.
